This chocolate is a milestone in the organic sector because it consists of 100% cocoa fruit! It does not taste as bitter as bars with 100% cocoa content, as it consists of 27% cocoa fruit flakes. These are obtained from cocoa pulp, which contains the beans. Normally it is discarded as a waste product after harvesting. However, we use this pulp in the form of dried cocoa fruit flakes. These give the chocolate a fruity, completely natural sweetness.
The cocoa fruit flakes are produced directly on the cocoa farms in Ghana. Here, fresh cocoa pulp is pressed directly after harvesting using mobile, solar-powered equipment and then processed in the nearby KOA factory.
Thanks to the use of cocoa fruit flakes, our Whole Cocoa Fruit Chocolate contains no added sugar. Instead, this superfood contains beneficial ingredients directly from the cocoa fruit: Flavanols, vitamins and minerals.

The dream: less food waste, more income for cocoa farmers, sustainable growth…
The Koa company is no longer dreaming, but creating additional income for cocoa farmers with its products such as cocoa fruit juice or dried cocoa pulp, which is paid out on the day of production. And the yield is impressive: A full 25 % of a cocoa fruit consists of the fruit pulp, which is now reused instead of being disposed of – an enormous saving of potential food. The involvement of young people in particular in Ghana creates additional jobs and prospects for sustainable growth in the region.
