Coconut macaroons are a traditional German pre-Christmas treat. They consist of a sweet mixture of sugar, egg white and desiccated coconut and are baked in small mounds on a baking tray. Dark chocolate goes particularly well with them, providing a wonderful contrast to the rather sweet biscuits. Our recommendation: VIVANI Dark Nougat adds notes of fine gianduja nougat, meaning that these little delicacies are almost gone before they even make it into the biscuit tin.

Preheat the oven to 160 °C and line a baking tray with baking paper.
02
Beat the egg whites with salt in a bowl until stiff. Gradually add the sugar and continue beating until the mixture is shiny and firm.
03
Carefully fold in the desiccated coconut and orange zest.
04
Use two teaspoons or a piping bag to pipe 16 small mounds onto the baking paper.
05
Bake the macaroons for approx. 12–15 minutes until lightly golden brown. Leave to cool completely.
06
In the meantime, roughly chop the chocolate and melt in a bain-marie until smooth and shiny.
07
Dip half of each macaroon into the melted chocolate and place on baking paper. Decorate with more chocolate and sprinkle with desiccated coconut as desired. Leave to set completely.
